Carson Now reader Robert Cope reported seeing a large dust devil tornado Saturday morning near C-Hill off of Kings Canyon Road. His account is as follows:
A brief but strong tornado appeared Saturday morning in the Westside area of Carson City, causing minor damage. At about 11:15AM, my wife Maria was alongside our home off of Kings Canyon Road at the base of C-Hill.
Suddenly the wind became extremely strong and flying debris caught her eye. She looked up to see tumbleweeds, bushes and even a large tree branch swirling above her.
While opening the side storm door to seek shelter in the garage, the door was blown from her hands and ripped off its hinges.
She saw the tree branch fly off as the tornado quickly moved off toward C-Hill and appeared to dissipate. The branch, which measured about 6 inches in diameter and about 12 feet long landed in an open space next to the home.
A quick survey of the neighborhood found only minor additional damage from the wind.
